Whereas France recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of abortion legalization, the woman’s right to choose is still not guaranteed everywhere in Europe. In Ireland, abortion is punishable by a fourteen-year jail sentence. Every year, it is estimated that thousands of women travel to the UK to access this medical procedure. In conversation, people often say they “take the boat”. Gillian, Vanessa, Melisa, Gerard and Gaye talk about this taboo journey.
